Tlingit and Haida history, legend and adventure are combined in Shamans and Kushtakas. In the culture of the Natives of the Pacific Northwest Coast, including Southeast Alaska, the shaman was the link between the human and the spiritual worlds. The shaman battled the kushtaka, an evil spirit half-human, half-land otter, for the souls of dying persons.
