Growing up as the son of a farmer in the Great Depression, Bill Sheffield was born into meager beginnings. Handicapped by a ferocious stutter, he struggled to communicate from the age of five onward. In spite of this, Bill never stopped dreaming or working towards those dreams.

In what became the biggest break of his life, Bill was sent to Alaska by Sears Roebuck in 1953. Arriving with little to his name, he went on to become a successful hotelier and eventually Governor of Alaska. But nothing came easy to him. The loss of his wife, winning the Governor's race, and a scandal that ignited a media firestorm severely tested his belief in himself. Ultimately, Bill overcame these challenges, finding success in his political, business and personal life.
